Bilford Road Safety Campaign
Neil Laurenson has been leading the calls for action to be taken to make the junction of Bilford Road with Astwood Road safer for pedestrians, amid growing concerns that someone will soon be killed.
It is frequently crossed by pupils from the nearby Tudor Grange Academy as well as people trying to get to the Costcutter convenience store on the corner of the junction.
Some residents claim near misses are a daily occurrence but so far the county council's Highways Department has declined to make any alterations to the junction.
Neil was first made aware of people's concerns when he stood as the Green Party's city council candidate for the St Stephen ward in May 2011, and he has continued to press for action. He is hoping that now that he has been elected in 2012 he will be able to get something done.
A number of ideas have been tabled including adding a pedestrian crossing or reducing the speed limit to 20mph.
"A lot of people are really concerned about it because they know people that have been hit here. I spoke to about 50 people one day and about one in ten of those knew someone who had been hit, which I thought was incredible," Neil said.
The Hunting Act of 2004 brought an end to the savagery and cruelty of hunting foxes with dogs.
However, despite the consigning of their 'sport' to the history books, the hunters are now stepping up their efforts to have the Hunting Act repealed. Moreover, some politicians want to repeal the hunting ban despite research carried out by the League Against Cruel Sports that showed that 75% of the public being are in favour of keeping it.
How many people in Worcester want to keep the current ban in place? Use the voting buttons below and keep up the pressure. Surely our local Conservative MP will not vote against the wishes of his constituents?

Cars travelling at 20 mph hit 60% fewer people, kill far fewer of those they do hit and don’t scare kids so much that they’re afraid to play outside.
Free insulation for all
Greens are working for universal free insulation, not means-testing. In Yorkshire, Green Councillors have made sure that 40,000 people will get warmer, cheaper-to-run homes for absolutely nothing.
A Green New Deal for Worcester
In a world with limited resources, it does not make sense to depend on economic growth. The Green Party seeks an economic system which recognises the limits of the natural systems of the planet while supporting the needs of all people.
