Aled Dilwyn Fisher is the youngest GLA candidate and is a 21 year-old 3rd year undergraduate student at the London School of Economics (LSE).Aled is currently Male Co-Chair of the LSE Students' Union (SU) Green Party, Britain's largest student Green Party, and has been on the Young Greens National Committee for 3 years. He has been elected for two years running as Environment and Ethics Officer on the LSESU Executive Committee.
At LSE, Aled successfully campaigned to win cleaners a London Living Wage. He is on The East London Communities Organisation (TELCO) Living Wage Action Team and was involved in protests at Citigroup Bank, who agreed to pay a Living Wage after protest by LSE students.
Aled campaigned successfully to ban arms investments in his SU and led a campaign to oppose the appointment of BP Chairman, Peter Sutherland, as Chair of LSE. He has supported the twinning of the SU with a Palestinian university and has campaigned for divestment from Sudan and Burma.
Outside LSE, Aled has been a National Union of Students (NUS) delegate. He jointly founded the Campaign for a Progressive, Green, Campaigning NUS and the Defend NUS Democracy Campaign.
Aled joined the Green Party after involvement in the Stop the War Coalition. He has taken non-violent direct action against Trident nuclear weapons, blockading the Faslane Submarine Base.
Originally from Cardiff, Wales, his interests outside of politics include music, football and friends and family.
He strongly supports the plan to extend the 30% student Oyster discount to all fares, not just weekly or monthly travelcards. The Green Party campaign message for an affordable London is particularly significant for young people and students and who often struggle with the higher costs in the capital.
