Noel Lynch

London-wide Assembly candidate No.3

Noel Lynch arrived in London in 1986 from his native Kilmallock in Co. Limerick. He is Coordinator of the London Federation of Green Parties and a former member of the London Assembly.

Noel runs the Green Room Charity Shop in Archway Road which has been described as "the most unusual charity shop in London" and is a freelance auctioneer who has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for good causes.

He founded the Green Party Trade Union Group, the London Internationals Group and is Chair of the London-Irish Green Group and the London Green Party Animal Rights Group.

As an Assembly Member he campaigned vigorously on health issues, the homeless, GM crops, fluoride, the aged, disability issues and animal rights. He was instrumental in saving Cricklewood Homeless Centre and nurtured the then fledging Patients Forum of the London Ambulance Service.

He produced the following papers for the GLA:

  • 'Where have all the local shops gone?' A recipe for the revival of strong local shops
  • 'Plastic not Fantastic' which kicked off the campaign against plastic bags.
  • 'Toilets going to waste' to highlight the decline of public toilets.
  • 'Keep off the Grass - the loss of London's Playing Fields'

Noel also organised major conferences in City Hall on GM Crops and Non-animal Medical Research.

During his thirteen months as an Assembly Member he tabled 157 formal questions to the Mayor on subjects as diverse as:

  • GLA recruitment from Ethnic Minorities. Environmental impact of the Olympics.
  • Camden Tube Station.
  • Cruelty to Trafalgar Square Pigeons.
  • Freedom Passes for the disabled.
  • Inappropriate development in Erith Marshes, Romney Marsh etc.
  • Protection of Smithfield market.
  • The Arms fair.
  • The Black Environmental Network.
  • Return of the Parthenon Marbles.
  • Planning policy for supermarkets.
  • Community Consultation.

As a community activist in East Finchley he was a founder member of the local newspaper 'The Archer', the East Finchley Traders Association, the Credit Union and spent six years as an advisor with the Finchley Advice Centre.
