Dr Joseph Healy

Joseph Healy was born and brought up in Dublin. He is a former International Coordinator of the Green Party. He served three years on the international committee. He stood as a European candidate for London in 2004 and as a local candidate in Southwark in 2006. He has worked closely with Green Party MEPs and other European Green parties.Joseph Healy

Joseph has a Ph.D in Eastern European Studies and speaks Russian and German. He was director of a London-wide disability charity 2004-2008. He has a strong interest in Eastern European, as well as health and disability issues.

Trade Union and Health Issues 

Joseph is an active member of the trade union UNITE and is a delegate to the Southwark Trades Council. He has been campaigning for workers rights:
• he strongly supported the campaign by Southwark Greens to introduce the London Living Wage of £7.50 per hour for all council employees and contractors
• he strongly supports the right of migrant workers to a fair wage and to work legally.
He fought passionately to save the emergency mental health clinic at the Maudsley Hospital in Camberwell. He is also the Vice Chair of the Patients Forum Ambulance Service (London).

Candidate Campaigns on Health Issues 

Joseph is a long term health campaigner. He has fought for issues such as patient involvement in the NHS and for accessible Patient Transport Services in London's hospitals. He was a member of the Southwark Community Health Council. He played a major part in getting Guy's & St Thomas' Hospital to restore Patient Transport Services to disabled/ older people with a London Taxicard. He also campaigns for LGBT rights internationally.
