Rail fares have just gone up another 2.2%. Over the last 10 years rail costs have gone up by more than twice the amount of wages. If we are serious about cutting city centre congestion and air pollution we should instead be reducing rail and bus fares.
Worcester City Councillor Louis Stephen and fellow Green Party member Jane Moorhouse were part of a team giving out postcards to commuters calling for our MP to support bringing the railways back under public ownership. Today the split responsibility for running the tracks, signalling and the different rail franchises creates a complex web of responsibility and ownership that costs us more but fails to provide a proper service.
Yesterday's event was organised by Worcester Trades Council.
Green Party Meetings
Come along to our monthly meeting to discuss our plans for Worcester and Worcestershire. Our next meeting starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday 16th May in the upstairs room at The Cricketers on Angel Street. This meeting will focus on our strategy for the year ahead. It would be great to see some new people.
